The IRIX 6.5 Complementary Applications CD, May 2004, is a companion to IRIX 6.5.24 and the IRIX 6.5 Applications CD. This CD contains various desktop applications and products that are not installed by default.
IMPORTANT Complementary Applications CD NOTE:
Because the .related_dists file has been removed from the IRIX 6.5
Apps CD distribution, users may not be aware of the /CDROM/dist/dev and
/CDROM/dist/extras directories. To access these use the
"Open" option in Software Manager.
ESP PrintPro replaces several files that are part of the IRIX print product therefore these two packages are incompatable with one another. If you install ESP PrintPRO and later want to remove the package, you will need to reinstall print from the Applications CD and the current IRIX 6.5 Overlay CD in order to restore print.
Beginning with Netscape 4.8 the default browser is compiled N32 so older Third party Netscape plugins will not work with the new N32 browser. All plugins exist in N32 versions except the older Shockwave plugin. The O32 Netscape client s/w is no longer part of the distribution.
If you choose to read the release notes for products before installing new products, you can now view the release notes easily from Software Manager. From the desktop Toolchest choose System, then Software Manager. This will bring up the Software Manager window. Choose to Customize Installation by typing /CDROM/dist into the Available Software box. A list of products available for installation will come up. If the product name is highlighted (similar to an HTML link) then there are Release Notes available. Simply click on the link to bring up the Release Notes window.
SGI provides a comprehensive product support maintenance programs for its products. For more information install the Welcome product from your IRIX 6.5 Overlay CDs and browse the Support and Services page. To purchase support, contact your local SGI sales office (see http://www.sgi.com/global/).
